Giuseppe Penone: Dessins
The exhibition presents 241 drawings donated by Giuseppe Penone to the Centre Pompidou in 2020.
Although better known as a sculptor, Giuseppe Penone has always drawn. In order to be as close as possible to the artist’s way of working and thinking, the exhibition favours a thematic layout rather than a chronological one, with an important place for serial work. The presentation of these 241 drawings, some of which have never been shown before, illustrates the different stages of the artist’s thinking, from the preparatory sketch to the drawing after the sculpture in some cases. In addition to the four sculptures in the collection of the Centre Pompidou, chosen in connection with the drawings, two sculptures belonging to the artist have been added so that all the materials dear to the artist are present: wood, clay, stone, leaves and bronze.
