Grayson Perry: Vanity, Identity, Sexuality
Vanity, Identity, Sexuality is the first major exhibition in France dedicated to the British artist Grayson Perry, winner of the Turner Prize in 2003. His practice is characterised by the use of traditional materials, such as bronze, cast iron, printmaking, tapestry, with a particular focus on ceramics. The traditional look of his pieces contrasts with the message they convey: in fact, Perry decorates them with his original signature style, made of drawings, handwritten and stencilled texts, photographic transfers and rich glazes. Using this pop and ironic language, the artist faces topics such as identity, gender, class, religion and sexuality, embedding at the same time references to his personal experiences related with childhood, family life and his transvestite alter ego Claire.
