Ibrahim Mahama: The Harvest Season
The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents The Harvest Season, an exhibition by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, developed with nine associated artists and collectives: Dorothy Akpene Amenuke, Gideon Appah, James Barnor, CATPC, Courage Dzidula Kpodo, Zohra Opoku, Postbox Ghana, Tjaša Rener and Feda Wardak.
The exhibition brings together site-specific works and new versions of existing installations, drawing on Mahama’s artistic practice and his three art centres in Tamale, northern Ghana. It explores themes including Ghana’s colonial and postcolonial histories, industrial and commercial heritage, material memory, infrastructure and collective forms of knowledge.
The participating artists and collectives contribute works addressing different aspects of African history, architecture, cultural transmission and political and social memory. The exhibition also considers the relationship between the legacies of African independence and possible futures.
