Instructions Pour Couper les Ficelles
The group exhibition investigates what happens in the backstage of an artwork's production
Galeria Alberta Pane in Paris hosts the group exhibition “Instructions pour couper les ficelles” (Instructions to cut the strings), named after the expression denoting the act of manipulating a situation, making others act without showing off, or of being the hidden inspirer of a person or activity. It is also linked to arts, referencing the strings of marionettes.
The exhibition groups four artists, Gayle Chong Kwan, Gaetano Cunsolo, João Vilhena and Léonard Martin working across a wide range of media all investigating what remains hidden in the backstage of an artwork’s production. The pieces on view make evident details normally concealed, such as in Kwan’s pictures of the sets designed in her studio, in Vilhena’s drawings, Martin’s paintings and Cunsolo’s stairs.
