Jaume Plensa: 5 rêves, 5 désirs
In “5 rêves, 5 désirs”, Plensa presents a series of recent works across multiple gallery spaces, including sculptures in alabaster, iron, and bronze, as well as works on paper. The exhibition explores his enduring themes of dream and desire, linking cerebral, corporeal, and spiritual dimensions. At 13 rue de Téhéran, five alabaster sculptures lie horizontally on the floor, their oval forms recalling waterlilies or floating stones. Human faces and occasionally hands emerge from these forms, polished or raw, producing a tension of texture and light that balances minerality and fantasy, inviting silent contemplation. At 38 avenue Matignon, two large cast iron portraits face each other on the ground floor, while a white-painted bronze face occupies the first floor. These works articulate contrasting intensities of desire, with iron grounding and bronze evoking ethereality. Sculpted hands around the faces introduce a sense of introspection and peace. In the bookshop, recent drawings and prints extend Plensa’s investigation of form, with faces in profile appearing to float between presence and absence. Throughout the exhibition, Plensa unites material, human figure, and silence into a contemporary sculptural vocabulary, offering viewers spaces for reflection and poetic engagement.
