Kader Attia et Elizabeth Peyton: Les Hôtes du Louvre
For the 2024–2026 edition of Hosts at the Louvre, Kader Attia and Elizabeth Peyton present the results of their two-year residency at the museum. During their time at the Louvre, the artists each worked from a studio on the premises, developing their practices through encounters with the museum’s spaces, collections, staff and visitors. Their respective responses are now brought together in the Salle de la Chapelle.
Attia presents a film and an installation inspired by his personal wanderings through the Louvre. His work reflects on the movement of time, memory and the gaze, using the museum and its collections as a starting point for a more personal exploration. Peyton presents paintings and drawings, combining reinterpretations of works from the Louvre with portraits and representations of historical and contemporary subjects created during her time in the museum.
Although distinct in their approaches, the two presentations reveal different ways of engaging with the Louvre as both a physical space and a source of images, histories and memories. Their works draw on the museum’s collections while examining how artworks are encountered, interpreted and transformed through an artist’s own perspective.
The exhibition is designed by Donatien Grau and Nicolas Marbeau in dialogue with the artists.
