Latifa Echakhch

Dvir Gallery, 13 Rue des Arquebusiers, 75003

Artist: Latifa Echakhch
Curators: Yotam Intrator and Chaya Hazan

Dvir Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of Latifa Echakhch in its Paris space, marking her sixth collaboration with the gallery. Born in El Khnansa, Morocco, in 1974, Echakhch lives and works between Martigny and Vevey, Switzerland. She received the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2013 and represented Switzerland at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022.

Her practice spans painting, sculpture and installation, frequently engaging with objects of domestic or social resonance. By acts of erasure, destruction or restoration, she strips such objects of their practical use, releasing the memories and symbolic weight they contain. In doing so, Echakhch redefines how these familiar forms might be read, situating them between personal recollection and collective history.

Balancing the conceptual with the romantic, and the political with the poetic, her work prompts viewers to consider how material, memory and meaning intersect. Echakhch’s approach questions the permanence of cultural signs while affirming their capacity to be reimagined.
