Michelangelo Pistoletto

Michelangelo Pistoletto is an Italian artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, installation and socially engaged projects. His work is associated with the so-called ‘New Objectivity’, of which he is considered one of its significant Italian practitioners. From 1963 onwards, he developed a distinctive technique involving life-size photographic images of objects and people transferred onto large surfaces of polished stainless steel and Plexiglas. This approach explores the relationship between the ‘man-object’, reality and representation, integrating reproduced images into the surrounding environment through a trompe-l’œil effect.
