Miss Recuerdo
The exhibition, curated by Elsa Vettier, brings together the work of painter Grichka Commaret and his sister, videographer Tohé Commaret, in a dialogue between their respective practices. The exhibition coincides with the production of their first joint film, “Palma”, and presents two excerpts from it. Shot in Vitry-sur-Seine, the film explores the disappearance of Paloma, a well-known local figure, raising questions about breaking free from familial and social ties.
Much of the work on display was created alongside “Palma” between late 2024 and early 2025, forming an organic link to the film. Grichka’s large-scale canvases take on the format and function of everyday objects, while Tohé’s films—”Pukyu”, “Mustard”, and “8”—weave layered narratives where screens, rumours, and recurring characters intertwine. The designer duo CluelesS (Saloméja Jacquet and Clara Stengel) contributes to the spatial composition, heightening the ambiguity and liminality of the setting.
Both artists draw inspiration from their childhood home, a housing complex in Vitry-sur-Seine where their family settled after emigrating from Chile. Grichka’s paintings depict its corridors, lifts, and grilles, while Tohé’s films capture its people in search of meaning. Their works echo one another—light consumed on film, a glowing mouth on canvas; an acrylic eye opening, a red pupil onscreen—blurring the lines between memory, fiction, and reality.
