Sorry Sun

Curator: Liberty Adrien
Artists: Saodat Ismailova, Alexandre Khondji, Hélène Yamba-Guimbi

The exhibition “Sorry Sun” unfolds through fragmented narratives, intersecting stories and shifting temporalities, mapping forms of dislocation. Bringing together the practices of Saodat Ismailova, Alexandre Khondji and Hélène Yamba-Guimbi, it moves across moving image, installation and sculpture to reveal the fractures of our era: the erosion of social ideals, disillusionment with technological promises and the urgency of ecological crisis.

Embedded within these works are popular stories and rituals, fragments of memory that surface as subtle forms of resistance. Their pieces seem suspended between clarity and ambiguity, the familiar and the intangible, offering viewers a sense of being caught in an in-between state.

The title “Sorry Sun” captures this ambivalence, evoking a light that is tender yet burning, illuminating yet disorienting, alive yet fatigued. In this shifting illumination, the exhibition traces how artists negotiate uncertainty and instability, uncovering fragile continuities and overlooked stories.

Ismailova’s practice often draws on Central Asian histories and oral traditions, weaving memory and myth into moving images. Khondji works with sculptural and spatial forms to question perception and rupture, while Yamba-Guimbi explores narrative layering, dislocation and resistance through hybrid installations. Together, their works open a dialogue where personal and collective stories intersect, where memory and material are reconfigured.

Curated by Liberty Adrien, the exhibition proposes a cartography of thresholds and transitions. It invites viewers to encounter instability not as a limit but as a condition that generates new ways of perceiving, remembering and imagining.
