Stefan Sagmeister: Finally, Something Good.
Stefan Sagmeister's exhibition "Finally, Something Good." encourages us to move beyond a state of shock and towards action. Against a backdrop of global geopolitical and climate tensions, as a continuous flow of information overwhelms us and undermines our ability to imagine the future, Gaîté Lyrique is turning to joy and optimism as drivers of engagement.
With this new exhibition, Sagmeister invites us to take a step back and consider the world and its evolution over the long term, rather than through the lens of a continuous flow of information that often lacks perspective. With the playfulness that characterises his work, Sagmeister combines design and data to deliver an optimistic message about numerous aspects of our world that have tended to improve over time.
Drawing on data from the United Nations, the World Bank and other global and national databases, the artist transforms statistics into engaging visual representations that are accessible to a broad audience. By integrating these striking data visualisations into eclectic media – old master paintings, clothing, sculptural objects and installations – he creates a bridge between past and present, while telling a hopeful story of progress over time.
