Steffani Jemison: Clear Skies / Troubled Water
Curator: Caroline Honorien
In her forthcoming solo exhibition, Steffani Jemison invites visitors to decipher omens. The American artist explores physical and political phenomena that can immobilise or propel us, reflecting on gravity and weight as forces that may restrain or liberate.
Developed during her residency at Lafayette Anticipations, Jemison presents a new sculpture as part of an installation that also features new video work investigating movement and tools of orientation. She interweaves multiple temporalities, tracing intersections between geographies of violence and practices of liberation. The artist encourages us to question perspective and to imagine journeys that resist predetermined routes, guided instead by impulse.
Here, atmosphere is not simply a backdrop or a meteorological condition, but a lived experience: a climate charged with history, memory, and invisible tensions. It impacts bodies, shapes trajectories, and redirects paths. The exhibition unfolds as a space attentive to these imperceptible currents, where gestures emerge from the friction between gravity and desire, stillness and impact. In this shifting terrain, every movement offers a way to live differently, to reinvent coordinates, and to improvise new forms of presence.
