Steve Gianakos Solo Show

Semiose presents a new exhibition by Steve Gianakos. All of the artist’s oeuvre seems founded on afterwardsness — or on the aftermath of blows of one kind or another: slaps in the face, thrusts of the pelvis or some other funny business. Mixing innocence and prurience, vulgarity and sophistication, Gianakos in his drawings, collages, and acrylic-on-canvas paintings exposes the absurd combination of sexuality and anxiety at the heart of the human condition.
