Thomas Jorian: Traces of Empire

Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, 36 Rue Falguière

Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, Paris, will host an exhibition titled “Traces of Empire” by Thomas Jorian, on view from October 18, through November 26, 2016.

Thomas Jorian is a renowned French photographer based in Paris who has travelled the last few years to realize his new project on colonial history. The exhibition presents this new series of works focusing on the ruins of French imperialism. ‘Traces of Empire’ consists of photographs depicting places, landscapes, views of architecture and also testimonials of the glorious past of the French Empire. Presented as stunning large prints, these photographs echo the exotic stories adventures. Similar to the photographers of the 19th century on expedition to capture the outside world, Thomas Jorion also adopts the practice of using heavy and bulky equipment, using large format camera, and negative analogue films to capture these fragments of history.
