Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Lines and Bodies
Curators: Diane Dufour, Mei Asakura
Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012) is a remarkable yet little-known figure in Japanese photography in France. For the first time in Europe, this exhibition, organised in close collaboration with the Ishimoto Yasuhiro Photo Center at The Museum of Art, Kochi, Japan, brings together 169 original prints, most of which are vintage. The exhibition focuses on the early decades of Ishimoto’s work, spanning his time between Chicago and Japan. A key figure of the post-war era, Ishimoto is regarded as “visually bilingual” for his unique ability to blend the formal style of the New Bauhaus with the essence of Japanese aesthetics, all while maintaining a critical perspective on the social issues of his time.
