Francesco Simeti's "Come un limone lunare / che non riposa mai" is the inaugural exhibition of the Cultural Centre XNL.
XNL, the Contemporary Arts Centre of the city of Piacenza opens on February 2022 in the Ex-Enel building of The Fondazione di Vigevano e Piacenza. The first inaugural project “Anteprima” foresees a preview dedicated to the methodologies, languages and contents of the Contemporary Art Programme under the artistic direction of Paola Nicolin. “Anteprima” aims to marks the beginning of new a path of cultural and personal growth, based on the relationship between artistic and educational practices.
Francesco Simeti‘s “Come un limone lunare / che non riposa mai” is a preview of Simeti’s artist-atelier exhibition, which will see its final phase in September. The exhibition features two seminal works (“Rubble“, 2007 and “Curtain“, 2017) that indicate the themes and methodologies of his atelier exhibition. The title refers to one of the most famous lines by Danilo Dolci, taken from the poetry collection “Il limone lunare“, published in 1970, which is a sort of poetic declaration of the human potential of the sociologist and educator. Simeti investigates the aestheticisation and commercialisation of violence, combining the decorative with highly tragic images, underlining their trivialisation.
