Casa Vale Ferreira

Serralves Villa, no Parque de Serralves, R. de Serralves 97, 4150-708 Porto, Portogallo

The Serralves Museum presents the first anthological exhibition of Portuguese artists João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira at Serralves Villa. The exhibition features a wide selection of their works, including new pieces created for this event.

Held in Serralves Villa, an iconic Art Deco building in Portugal, the exhibition uses the villa’s luxurious interiors to stage historical re-enactments and unexpected encounters. The artists occupy nearly every room, transporting visitors through the villa’s history and memory.

Vale and Ferreira’s work explores themes related to Portuguese history and culture, such as folklore, national identity, maritime expansion, colonialism, fascism, memory politics, dictatorship violence, HIV/AIDS impact, and LGBTQIA+ stigma. These issues align with Portugal’s recent history, including the 50th anniversary of the 1974 revolution.

Organised by the Serralves Foundation and curated by Inês Grosso, the exhibition provides a unique context for reflecting on the artists’ work, which spans over twenty years.
