The exhibition at Galerie Zdeněk Sklenář, in Prague, displays for the first time in the Czech Republic a newly-discovered extensive collection of drawings by Václav Boštík, completed by the artist during his stay in Rome in November 1977. The drawings were exhibited in the context of the experimental Gruppo Altro theatre; now, this is the occasion to learn for the first time about Boštík’s artistic position in that period. The drawings unveil the artist’s investigation of the concept of “bottomlessness”: in his works, he challenged the physical limits of space, creating original visual experiences.
The publication of an eponymous catalogue accompanies the exhibition, including Karel Srp’s essay “On Perfection” and with graphic design by Zdeněk Ziegler. The catalogue has been published in a print run of a hundred copies numbered 1 to 100, and thirty author’s copies numbered 1 to 30.
