Invisible Cities
The project “Invisible Cities” (“Cidades Invisíveis”) – curated by artist and researcher Felippe Moraes – consists of presenting and proposing dialogues on mythological construction, symbolic and urban planning of ideal cities in the shape of an exhibition, which will also bring a series of debates, a publication and a couple of film screenings.
Starting from the discussion of the ideal concept itself and the notion of designed cities and modernist design for the architecture, this show puts these ideas in check, revisiting and placing them next to artistic proposals, in order to cut up their limits and issues, passing through literature, visual arts, film, urban issues, music and the Rio carnival. From “Tupinicópolis” to “Nosso Lar”, through the city of Rio de Janeiro and other real and imaginary cities.
The exhibition aims to discuss the “ideal” Rio de Janeiro that was created and is still in construction for the recent major events and the practical and symbolic conditions of these changes.
