Rio: Primeiras Poses, Visões da Cidade a Partir da Chegada da Fotografia (1840-1930)

“Rio: primeiras poses, visões da cidade a partir da chegada da fotografia (1840-1930)” comprehends nine decades of photographic production in Rio de Janeiro, with pieces that document the city during the Empire, specially during D. Pedro II’s Second Reign, and the first four decades of the Republic.

The exhibition comprises 450 images of photographers like Abraham-Louis Buvelot, Georges Leuzinger, Albert Henschel, Marc Ferrez, Thiele, W. Kollien, Augusto Malta and Guilherme Santos, among others, all belonging to IMS’ collection and selected by curator Sergio Burgi among around the ten thousand works from the period.

The show is part of the Institute’s series of homages to Rio de Janeiro’s 450th anniversary.
