Cao Fei: Supernova

MAXXI hosts the first Italian solo exhibition of the world-renowned artist Cao Fei, and it's a dystopian journey between virtual and reality.

Cao Fei‘s first solo exhibition in Italy projects the spectator in a science-fictional space of the future. “Supernova”, hosted by MAXXI from 16th December to 8th May and curated by Hou Hanru and Monia Trombetta, reflects on the unstoppable degeneration of our contemporary society, the unrestrained development of the metropolises, the consumeristic hyper-productivity in China.

Fei, born in Guangzhou, is interested in shedding a light on dystopian realities, partially already existing in degenerated metropolises, that consist of alienated individuals in junk spaces. She highlights the relationship between liminal spaces and the hyper-development of capitalism, dream, and reality, utopia and dystopia.
