Latent

“Latent”, a project born from the collaboration between D.O.O.R and Matèria, is a call for entries aimed at the promotion of outstanding research and production within the field of contemporary photography. The open call has no fixed theme and no age or nationality restrictions. In its first year Latent attracted over 130 submissions from all across the world that were reviewed by a highly specialized and diverse international judging panel. Following a meticulous selection process, 5 artists have been chosen to take part in the first Latent exhibition that will be held at Matèria in September 2016; one overall winner will be awarded a two-week artist residency in Rome.

The outstanding quality of the work received urged a few additions to the initial Latent model, prompting the panel to add 1 honourable mention and a selected shortlist of 27 Artists whose work will be promoted during and following the exhibition. Latent is a project that D.O.O.R and Matèria aim to establish as an ongoing opportunity for image-makers from across the globe to showcase and further their practice. The residency programme intends to open a fresh and cyclical dialogue between the artists selected and the city of Rome.
