On the Spiritual Matter of Art
MAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts, brings together a number of leading figures from the contemporary art world for a major group show ‘On the Spiritual Matter of Art’, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi.
The show ponders upon the questions: What does it mean today to talk about spirituality? Where does spirituality fit into a world dominated by digital and technological culture and an ultra-deterministic mentality? Is there still a spiritual dimension underpinning the demands of art?
The exhibition features works by 19 leading artists from differing backgrounds and cultures including: Matilde Cassani, Enzo Cucchi, Jimmie Durham, Haris Epaminonda, Remo Salvadori and NamsalSiedlecki, Hassan Khan, Kimsooja, John Armleder, Francesco Clemente, Abdoulaye Konaté, Victor Man and Sean Scully, Shirin Neshat, Jeremy Shaw, Michal Rovner, Elisabetta Di Maggio, Tomás Saraceno and Yoko Ono.
