The Large Glass
The reinstallation of the Museum’s Collection offers a fresh perspective by involving an artist or intellectual to create a dialogue between works of art, architecture, and photography. It provides an opportunity for research and appreciation, showcasing the works of renowned masters and contemporary artists.
For “The Large Glass”, curatorship is entrusted to Alex Da Corte, a conceptual American artist who experiments with diverse media, including painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and video. Exploring the nuances of contemporary experience, Da Corte interprets the MAXXI Collection in an organic way:
“In the swelling curves of Zaha Hadid’s grand design, we find the classic elements of water, wind, fire, and earth. We see growth, decay, transformation, and nature weaving through everything […] As the world moves and crystallises into alchemy, we embark on a journey towards an inevitable, invisible ether. With nature as our guide, we might move towards an age of glass, where we exist everywhere, evolving without leaving a trace.”
The exhibition features works by Francis Alÿs, Atelier Van Lieshout, Massimo Bartolini, Alighiero Boetti, Domenico Gnoli, Wolf Kahlen, William Kentridge, Marisa Merz, Giuseppe Penone, Kara Walker, Gal Weinstein, AWP, DEMOGO, Stefano Cerio, Luigi Ghirri, and Rachele Maistrello.
