The Museum of Everything at Kunsthal Rotterdam

Westzeedijk 341

The Museum of Everything is the first and only travelling institution for undiscovered, unintentional, untrained and unclassifiable artists.

The Museum of Everything rejects all reductive terminology and discrimina-
tory definition. Instead it embraces creative do-ers and makers from every walk of life and celebrates their universal right to visual expression.

Among their secret languages, careful illustrations and anonymous carvings you can discover reconstituted sequences by Chicago janitor Henry Darger, towering spirit scrolls by Chinese factory worker Guo Fengyi, swirling dreamscapes by Mexican émigré draughtsman Martín Ramírez, and figurative histories by Sam Doyle, the storyteller who inspired Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Inside the walls of Kunsthal Rotterdam, The Museum of Everything has constructed a vast installation with Oscar-nominated production designer, Eve Stewart, to narrate a journey from the 16th century to the present day. Alongside the artworks are films created by the museum, plus essays from global advocates, like David Byrne, Ed Ruscha, Marlene Dumas, Maurizio Cattelan, Carsten Höller, Annette Messager, John Baldessari and many more.

Acting as a platform for those whose creative output does not easily fit into an art historical worldview, The Museum of Everything aims to expand current notions of art-making and foster a greater cultural equality. If that all sounds a bit too heavy, fear not: the show also includes The Café, The Shop, The Library and The Cinémateque of Everything, spaces which provide respite and a space for quiet contemplation and debate.
