Arte na Moda: Coleção MASP-Rhodia

In this show, the museum presents the totality of the Collection MASP Rhodia, donated by the French chemistry company in 1972 and composed of 78 pieces produced in the 1960s. The company, who sold synthetic yarn in Brazil, developed fashion shows and collections to advertise its products. The shows were famous for being more like spectacles than commercial advertising, as they were conceived by a team of professionals from the theatre, dance, music and visual arts.

The prints of the clothes exhibited at MASP were created by Brazilian artists like Willys de Castro (1926-1988), Aldemir Martins (1922-1996), Hércules Barsotti (1914-2010), Carybé (1911- 1997), Ivan Serpa (1923-1976), Nelson Leirner (b. 1932, São Paulo), Manabu Mabe (1924-1997), Alfredo Volpi (1986-1988), Lula Cardoso Ayres (1910-1987) and Antonio Maluf (1926-2005).

The exhibition is curated by MASP’s artistic director Adriano Pedrosa, joint curator Patrícia Carta and curator Tomás Toledo.
