Devotion

Museu Afro Brasil, Pedro Alvares Cabral Ave, Parque Ibirapuera

Rodrigo Koraicho presents to the public 40 images taken between October and November 2013 in the cities of Kathmandu, Nepal and Varanasi, India. It also includes in the exhibition a series of records of the daily work of the photographer and his assistant during the trip.

According to the curator, Claudine Roberto da Silva, “the young photographer Rodrigo Koraicho (1985) is animated by the spirit of characteristic otherness a certain amount of artists who, like him, has been engaged in a long while, trips motivated by a variety of purposes, and therefore, possible to insert it into the interesting tradition of traveling artists. “Also according to the curator, the photographer not only held in India and Nepal undeniable quality photographs, but also prospected philosophies, systems of ideas, veneration modes to life and, above all, an understanding of the reality that almost always is, in its beauty, strange and often incomprehensible mentality dominated by the exacerbated materialism of Western society.

The 40 photographs that Koraicho shows at the Museum Afro Brazil transport moviegoers to a world where men and women commune with the idea that holiness, understood as the search for the Divine, the transcendental, it is possible to be achieved through the devout work. What emerges from these images is the spiritual strength and exceptional wisdom printed on hands, eyes, wrinkled skin, in short, in the body of these people that has defined and paving through ancient times the paths of devotion.
