Rebecca Louise Law: The Beauty of Decay

Chandran Gallery, 459 Geary

London based artist Rebecca Louise Law presents “The Beauty of Decay” as an artistic study of the decline and succession of natural materials, as the stems overhead gradually shift through the natural stages of life, decay, wilting, fading and drying.
Marking her debut solo gallery exhibition in the united states, Rebecca Louise Law’s site-specific work takes visitors on a journey of deterioration, extending the perceived limitation of the beauty of flowers and elevating them from merely decorative items. individually entwined with copper wire, the 8,000 form a colossal floral canopy overhead, creating a cascade of seemingly floating flowers that envelop and immerse viewers within its expanse. throughout the duration of the exhibition, the botanicals will change in shape, color and texture as they shift through the stages of life and death, prompting viewers to examine how they perceive the value of the material as it transitions from lush to decay. ‘my art is about the human interaction with nature,’ the artist says. ‘I take flowers, control their environment, change their properties and allow the viewer to reevaluate their worth.’

At the conclusion of the exhibition, Chandran Gallery will return the deteriorated flowers to law’s studio in London where she will repurpose them in her art, again extending the flowers’ vitality.
