Teresa Margolles: La Carne Muerta Nunca Se Abriga
This is the fist solo show in Chile by Mexican artist Teresa Margolles (Sinaloa, Mexico, 1963) where she presents a series of works and interventions carried out in the Atacama region and in peripheral sectors of Santiago de Chile.
Curated by Andrea Pacheco González (Santiago, Chile, 1970), the exhibition makes visible the particular point of view and artistic career of Margolles, which opposes the normalization of social exclusion and its media anesthesia, contextualizing the concept of vestige and residue, addressed profusely in the trajectory of the artist, in the Chilean territory.
Margolles observes the local context – whose economic model is considered one of the most unequal in the world – and its effect on the bodies through photographs, video, installations and ceramic pieces, which problematize the devastating effects of capitalism in relation to issues such as homelessness, pollution, racism or social exclusion.
