The Anual de Arte FAAP is organized by Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, since 1964, to present the visual production from the members of its courses, and may be noticed as one of the most traditional and lasting among the contemporary art of the city of São Paulo.
The exhibit may still be understood as an activity that gathers the Foundation’s institutional project and, in resonance with its objectives and ideas, acts as an encouragement and support to the artistic and cultural production
Among the selected artists, the Awarding Committee – composed by distinguished professionals of the visual arts area, acting in the national and foreign artistic circuits – awards seven of these with scholarships: three annual scholarships of 90%, two of 75%, and one of 60%.
As a parallel program, and complementary activity of the exhibition, and with the purpose to affirm its features as a discussion lounge, Anual performs actions that are realized in the first day of the exhibit with a meeting – open to the public – with the Awarding Committee. Through the exhibit there are meetings with the Selection Committee and the release of the exhibit catalog accompanied of a conversation with the invited artists, all activities that will be franchised not only by students, teachers and selected arts, but also by the public, the general community and the people interested in it.
It is also a part of the exhibit project since 1999 the participation of “invited artists” in Anual de Arte of FAAP, it is an action that consolidated at each event and, since 2009, it occurs by the invitation to participants of the Artistic Residence Programheld by FAAP at Cité des Arts, in Paris.
The strategy of the invited artist is to amplify the opportunity of possible dialogs between the production of the current visual arts students with artists participating in the artistic system, making possible, with its presence in the exhibit, to expand the possible relations between different stages do the artistic making, and at the same time fortifying the relations with the history and the work performed in the Course of Visual Arts, in the Faculty and by Fundação.
The FAAP Artistic Residence Program at Cité des Arts, in Paris, was initiated in 1997 and it is the only held by an national educational institution to enable for fifty years from that date on that the Brazilian artists have the experience to “be in residence”, in the context of that European capital; in this way, FAAP semiannually sends an artist to Paris, allowing he/she to develop its research project or presented work, for which he/she was selected.
