Anna Maria Maiolino: Ponto a Ponto

“Ponto a Ponto” [Point to Poin] is the first solo exhibition of works by Anna Maria Maiolino at Galeria Luisa Strina. It features pieces she created with different media over the last five years: drawings, photographs, videos, sculptures, sound and poetry.

These works constitute  various multi-linear sets; each set follows a nonlinear regime in the creation process, remaining in constant imbalance and mutation in relation to other sets. At the same time, it conveys its own meanings, which sometimes move towards one another, and sometimes move away. This is a creative realm composed of a wide spectrum of interests propped on the artist’s attitude both in the process of developing the series and throughout time.

In some of these works, the artist employed strictly studio, handcrafting techniques, whereas in others she used so-called new media: photography, video and sound. For these reasons, Anna Maria Maiolino refers to this show “Ponto a Ponto”: “I found this title to be quite opportune because it emphasizes the idea of ​​using a body of meanings articulated by the diversity of techniques”.
