Antonio Lee: Velocity vs. Viscosity
A research on the materiality of painting and on different production techniques guides the first solo show of Antonio Lee (b. 1981, São Paulo, Brazil) in his hometown. With nine canvases, five of them with medium dimensions and a set of four small ones, Velocity vs. Viscosity occupies the Zip’Up space, destined to experimental productions and new curatorial projects.
The title of the exhibition is a reference to fluid mechanics, as the artist departs from the relation between a fluid’s movements and its viscosity to experiment with paint. Lee uses in the same work oil, airbrush, and acrylic paint, in an attempt to create new sensations by the contact of different materials and textures. Curated by Mario Gioia, coordinator of the Zip’Up project, the show marks a shift in Lee’s production towards a less figurative composition, as he is not investigating issues regarding representation, but the act of painting itself.
