Dirty Looks NYC
Dirty Looks is a curators-ran platform for queer movies, videos and performances. This exhibition gathers audio-visual works that somehow were milestones for Dirty Looks programs in New York City during the last three years. Bradford Nordeen – curator of the show and the project’s creative director – will present the platform during the opening for the public.
The exhibition is the last event of the Redesignações [Re-designations] project, developed by Ateliê397 in 2015. Titled after the name of the surgery for sex change, the project discussed identities built in the art world. The events held throughout the year questioned themes like gender in art and categorization of independent art spaces. Dirty Looks NYC exhibition is aligned with the project’s goals, and brings to Brazil a collective that is currently a major reference in the discussion for gender in audio-visual production.
The show was realized with the support of São Paulo Secretary for Culture, via ProAC.
