Until June 19, 2016 the cultural center Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulo will host the exhibition “Do arquivo de um correspondente estrangeiro: fotografias de Luciano Carneiro” (“From Foreign Correspondent’s Archives: Luciano Carneiro”) 150 photographs and images gathered by the time in 1940s and the following decade published by magazine O Cruzeiro.
The original collection is kept at IMS and this exhibition is a great chance to see this great talent’s – yet little known one – photographs. Undaunted by wars, revolutions and social movements, Luciano Carneiro won fame and a name of the hero of his time.
Despite the fact that Luciano left a great legacy to the following generations, the photographic production of the photographer has not yet been fully referenced and researched. This exhibition is the first step towards this direction in order to emphasise the importance of Luciano Carneiro’s to the photography and the visual arts in Brazil.
The set of images that will be a part of this exhibition is formed by the original collection from IMS, which highlights the stories that held abroad as a correspondent of the magazine, and also works collected by photographer’s family.
