Histórias da infância

MASP on April 7 will open new exhibition Histórias da infância (Childhood Stories) which brings together multiple and diverse childhood representations from different periods, regions and schools, from African and Asian art to the Brazilian, Cuzco and European, including religious, baroque art, academic, modern, contemporary, and the so-called popular art, as well as drawings made by children, placed in the same space, alongside other works.

The exhibition is curated by Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director at MASP; Fernando Oliva, curator; Lilia Schwarcz, curator Deputy stories; Luciano Migliaccio, curator deputy of European art; and occupies the exhibition space on the 1st floor and the museum basement 1 until July 31, 2016.

Childhood Stories brings together some 200 works, including works and children’s drawings, and is organized around permeable core themes. On the first floor, there are portraits, family offices, education and play images, children artists, children angels, and finally, death; in the first basement there are the themes of the Nativity and Motherhood. Iconic works of MASP – as the Schoolboy (1888), Van Gogh, Pink and Blue (1881), Renoir, Portrait of Auguste Gabriel Gaudefroy (1741), de Chardin, and Child Life (1944), Portinari – they appear in new contexts, cross and contemporary, in juxtaposition to works of all times.
