Iván Navarro

By appropriation of classic concepts of design and of minimalism, Navarro (b. 1972, Chile) brings into focus political and social reflections related to his childhood experience under Chilean dictatorship.

The artist is known for the union between the neon and fluorescent lights and socio-political messages. His minimalist and modern sculptures and installations are guided by sharp social and political criticism, which has its origin in the artist personal history: among other practices of the dictatorship, Navarro remembers power cut as a way to impose curfews on people. A light to control the masses, a memory of his childhood, eventually became the major subject of his work.
