Janaina Matarazzo: Mundo à parte
The exhibition Mundo à parte [World Apart], curated by the Museum’s director André Sturm, presents 19 works by photographer Janaina Matarazzo. The images were captured in national reserves and parks in Southern Africa.
The material is fruit from a work the artist has been developing for years. In 2008, she visited the safari camp Meno O Kwena, on the margins of the Boteti River. When she left, it was for a three months journey contributing with the project Water For Life, which offers a longer stay for interested tourists in exchange for their working in nature preservation and social projects with local communities. After that experience, she lived in Botswana for seven years, when she both improved her technical and aesthetical abilities as photographer and deepened her relation with the wild life. The result of this long process can be partially perceived in the exhibition, where she attempts to present the viewer to this world apart from our ordinary lives, the wild life of animals almost untouched by civilization
