Part of the celebrations of Rio de Janeiro’s 450 anniversary, “Paisagens Não Vistas”, curated by Ligia Canongia, presents a view of the city through Marcos Chaves‘ eyes (b. 1961, Rio de Janeiro).
The show comprises over thirty photos and videos, produced from 1990 until the present, including new pieces that hadn’t been exhibited so far. Together, the works deploy an investigation about urbanity and nature from a contemporary point of view.
Sometimes humorous, ironic or tragic, the pieces discuss themes like landscape, quotidian and culture in a sort of visual chronicle.
