Martin Brausewetter: Deconstructions in Liquid Times
Deconstructions in Liquid Times, the first solo show by Martin Brausewetter (b. 1960, Austria) at Galeria Mezanino, gathers twenty works on canvas. Curated by Ana Magalhães, the exhibition accompanies a critical essay written by Ana Avelar.
Brausewetter’s production creates his paintings in egg tempera on canvas, where the scraping of matter suggests deconstructed landscapes. For the artist, his works express instability, and are connected with the theories of Polish theorist Zygmunt Bauman, who defines current times as liquid modernity, a world increasingly dynamic, fluid and fast.
In such a context, human experience is already instable. This volatile aspect is deepened through the composition of dynamic spaces that allude to new thesis of astrophysics, quantum physics, antimatter and the role of black holes in our interplanetary system.
