Ocupação Cartola

The poetry of composer and singer Angenor de Oliveira, better known as Cartola, is portrayed in the 31st edition of the Itaú Cultural’s Ocupação series. Six segments of the exhibition will uncover the poet’s life since his birth in Rio de Janeiro, touching on his early passion for the guitar, his meeting with the master Villa Lobos, the emergence of Mangueira, his affection for Dona Zica, the famous bar he opened in downtown Rio, his impact on the history of Brazilian music since then and his continuous influence on recent generations.
