Oswaldo Vigas: Antológica 1943-2013
On April 2 the Museum of Contemporary Art, University of São Paulo (MAC-USP) will open the doors to the exhibition Oswaldo Vigas. Antológica 1943-2013 (Oswaldo Vigas. Anthological 1943-2013). This is a selection of the most outstanding works of Venezuelan artist being shown in the Americas, in Lima, Santiago, Bogota, Sao Paulo, Mexico-DF and some other US cities. “Oswaldo Vigas. Antológica 1943-2013” is a set consisting of 63 paintings and five sculptures representing different periods of the master’s work since its inception. The exhibition remains on display at MAC-USP until July 3, 2016.
The show is curated by Bélgica Rodríguez ,writer, historian and former director of Museu de Arte das Américas, along with guest curator Katja Weitering, who currently holds the position of artistic director of the Museum of Modern Art CoBra, located in the metropolitan area in Amsterdam. Imre Kis-Jovak, member of the International Council of Museums, ICOM and the International Technical Committee ICAMT Museum, will be in charge of the display preparation. Among the most recent works of Katja Weitering and Imre Kis-Jovak is the exhibition “Miró & Cobra” at CoBra, inaugurated in October 2015.
A display will allow the observation of the work of Vigas, characterized by shows over the time, a deep sense of belonging to the American continent, expressed through the cosmogonic type of images that refer not only to the nature (minerals, plants and animals) but also the female figure, which mythically links the land and the source of life.
