Paulo Bruscky at Mam

Experimentation with different media is a constant feature of Paulo Bruscky; ephemeral supports such as photocopies, faxes, letter-writing paper and heliography also give bodily form to his critical thinking. Of equal importance is his correspondence with other artists such as Daniel Santiago and members of the Fluxus Group.

Bruscky owns the largest collection of the work of this group in the whole of Latin America, this will occupy the exhibition hall with a new piece produced especially for the MAM.

The show will also contain older pieces by Paulo Bruscky that shed light on his creative process, as a way of setting the context for the new work on display. The artist’s work employs experimentation and sharing to address, as one of its abiding themes, the circulation of art objects and to question the status of art. One is also struck by how the material brought together reveals connections between work that is decades old and more recent contemporary art across the world.

A multimedia artist and poet and a pioneer of Xerox and postal art in Brazil, Bruscky, like other artists of his generation, believes that the constituent parts of a work of art can be found in the immediate surroundings of everyday life.
