Prades Jaime: Dentro / Inside

Mezanino Gallery, R. Cunha Gago, 208 - Pinheiros

The artist Jaime Prades presents his solo exhibition ‘Dentro / Inside‘ at Mezanino Gallery, in Pinheiros, São Paulo. Abstraction and fluid elements are part of the imaginary Brazilian artist born in Spain. In 40 years of artistic career, it is the first time that the artist presents a show dedicated exclusively to the practice of painting and drawing, revealing a milestone in its path. Notoriously, he was known for interventions using the city as a backdrop, but now their focus moves to the inside, a search for ‘almost light’ – as he often declared. Paintings (20.01 cm x 1:40 cm) impregnated by graphic abstraction, the artist emphasizes the depth of the look in compositions made in charcoal and acrylic paint, exploring a range of cool colors (black / blue) and warm (copper / brown). The text is in charge of Ana Candida Avelar, art critic and PhD in History, Criticism and Theory of Art from the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP).

“They are like a membrane, a skin. I needed to talk about the delicacy, as a feminine look, internal – that the world needs today, “exclaimed Jaime Prades, leaving their inquiries side policies, even when you migrate a semi-figurative production to complete abstraction. It also features drawings (54 cm x 39 cm) produced in 2015/2016, embryonal of the entire series, which is marked by the stain and the game to expand / shine & clear / back.

The installation ‘Vortex Neutralizer’, performed with coal, granite tub, 12m from raw cotton, watery ink and handwritten text with charcoal, is also part of the show. His last individual in space was ‘Peacemakers’ with flat sculptures for wall and objects held in 2014. Some historical artist pieces, such as the ‘Raw’ series and ‘Human Nature’ – which found materials and ‘recycled’ by artist reinforce its poetic, can be found in the gallery.
