Sandra Cinto: Acaso e Necessidade

Casa Triângulo, Rua Estados Unidos, 1324, Jardins

Casa Triângulo is pleased to present Acaso e Necessidade (“Chance and Necessity”), the solo show by Sandra Cinto that inaugurates the gallery’s new space, a project by Metro Arquitetos Associados. The exhibition also celebrates 25 years of partnership between the artist and the gallery.
Acaso e Necessidade, title extracted from a Zen Buddhist thought, presents a new series of works, outcome of a period of 60 days in Japan invited by the Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, where the artist deepened her research on Oriental art and its influence on the West.

The installation, made of two panoramic canvases and one large-scale sculpture, was conceived specially to dialogue with the architecture. In the adjacent room there will be drawings produced in Japan, which originated the series.
The water, a recurrent element in the artist’s work, appears on monumental canvases, not only as a metaphor for contemporary society’s wreckage but also as a symbolic element of renovation, transformation and movement.
Inserted in the process of creation of the drawings, the water flows out by chance on the surface of the canvases and papers, registering the uncontrollable and unpredictable. The drawing appears juxtaposed to the stain as a necessity of expression and manifestation of thought, transforming the compositional field into a large landscape organized in two times: the fluidity of water and the slowness of making with thin and continuous lines.

The sculpture positioned at the center of the room is the fundamental piece in the conception of the exhibition: a bridge, symbol of passage and transience, has in its ends objects that suggest a reflection on childhood, adulthood and aging.

Currently the artist has a solo show at USF Contemporary Art Museum/Florida, curated by Noel Smith. In June 2016, she will install a permanent work in a public New York school, selected by the project Percent for Art.

The artist is also developing a project for the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, and will also feature in exhibitions in Spain, Holland and the United States among others. In 2015 her work Partitura was acquired by the MoMA, New York.
