The Saga of Reinstallation of Elections in 1945: History and Culture of 70 Years of Redemocratization in Brazil

Conducted by Museu de Arte Brasileira (MAB-FAAP) and TSE Museum in São Paulo, the exhibition A saga da reinstalação da Justiça Eleitoral em 1945: História e Cultura dos 70 anos da Redemocratização no Brasil (“The Saga of Reinstallation of Elections in 1945: History and Culture of 70 Years of Redemocratization in Brazil“) aims to turn the light upon the re-creation of Justiça Eleitoral in 1945, emphasizing the challenges faced by those engaged in making project País move from the dictatorship to a democratic practice.

The exhibition covers the period prior to 1945, highlighting the various forms of political action, from the period of colonial Brazil until the protest movements to Presidents Getúlio Vargas and to Estado Novo (1937-1945). The visitor will have a chance to see all the various technological advancements that the country experienced in these 70 years, as well as the main Brazilian achievements related the accessibility to the right to vote.

Curated by historian Ane Cajado and Denise Baiocchi Vianna, who both are the members of Museu do Voto (TSE), the show brings together approximately 220 historical documents, objects and reproductions of works by artists who contextualize periods, as Henrique Passos, Antônio Parreiras, Pedro Américo, Frans Jansz Post and many others, who have been extremely important figures for the art in Brazil since the seventeenth century.
