Women’s Histories: artists before 1900

As its title indicates, “Women’s Histories: artists before 1900” presents not a single history, but rather many, narrated with nearly 100 works made by women who lived in the North Africa, America (before and after the colonization), Asia, Europe, India and in the territory of the old Ottoman Empire, dating from the 1st century to the 19th century.

One of the features of the exhibition is an emphasis on the dialogue between paintings and textiles – after all, paintings are often made on textiles. With 60 paintings, 2 drawings and 34 textiles of different eras and origins, “Women’s Histories: artists before 1900” highlights works that go beyond traditional categories of the fine arts, seeking to offer more plural and inclusive perspectives in art history.
