Wyllys de Castro: Syde by Syde

The exhibition Syde by Syde brings together for the first time, a selection of works from Willys de Castro‘s series Active Objects (1959-1962), one of the most memorable moments of the neo-concrete art. The atypical objects need a physical commitment of the observers. Because of the way they are made, it is physically impossible seize them from a fixed point of observation. The opposite sides are always in dialogue and a static perspective can reveal only half of the story.
To properly observe the work there is a constant need to come and go, walk in front of the object, seeing one side the observers can remember and reconstruct the other one, and vice versa. In this way memory, time and movement are evoked as part of the object.
