Futurama. Nostalgia for the Future
FUTURAMA concludes MAN’s exhibition trilogy exploring how human beings construct their relationship with reality, the environment, and time. Following SENSORAMA and DIORAMA, the exhibition examines the future as a cultural, political, and emotional construct.
Taking its title from General Motors’ iconic 1939 Futurama installation, the exhibition reflects on the post-war optimism that imagined technology and progress as forces capable of shaping a better world. Through artworks, design, fashion, science-fiction publications, toys, and film, FUTURAMA reconstructs the aesthetics of the 1960s, when visions of space exploration, industrial innovation, and technological advancement permeated visual culture.
While celebrating this era of confidence, the exhibition also questions its legacy, revealing the social and environmental tensions generated by unchecked progress. Bringing together utopian visions and contemporary critical perspectives, FUTURAMA invites visitors to reconsider the future as a shared horizon to be imagined and collectively shaped.
