Liliana Cano: Il fuoco dentro
Marking twenty years since Liliana Cano received the Candeliere d’Oro Speciale, “Liliana Cano. Il fuoco dentro” presents the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the artist in recent years. Featuring more than one hundred works—including previously unseen paintings, photographs, archival materials, and documents—the exhibition traces over seven decades of Cano’s artistic practice.
Curated by Davide Mariani, the exhibition explores the recurring themes that shaped the artist’s work, from everyday life and Sardinia’s rural traditions to mythology, poetry, the sacred, female figures, and collective rituals. Organised into five thematic sections, the display also includes rare works shown publicly for the first time, alongside archival documentation of major commissions.
The exhibition design echoes Cano’s distinctive palette, creating an immersive journey through her artistic universe and highlighting the expressive power of colour—particularly red, which the artist described as “the king of colours”. Accompanied by a catalogue published by Silvana Editoriale, the exhibition offers a renewed perspective on one of the leading figures of twentieth-century Sardinian painting.
