YAN 1956. Jean Dieuzaide e il suo viaggio in Sardegna explores the photographic reportage that French photographer Jean Dieuzaide produced during his journey across Sardinia in the mid-1950s. Among the leading figures of twentieth-century European photography, Dieuzaide—who initially signed his work under the pseudonym Yan—captured the island through a humanist lens, documenting its landscapes, communities and everyday life. Centred on the Jean Dieuzaide Archive, one of the most significant collections held by ISRE, the exhibition highlights the documentary and artistic value of a body of work that continues to shape the visual history of Sardinia. The project, supported by Strategia Fotografia 2025, also celebrates the wider photographic heritage preserved by the Institute, which includes more than 40,000 images documenting the island's past and present.
